The defeat suffered by the Guanches (natives) at the hands of the Spanish troops in 1495 gives its name to this municipality - the 'Victory of Acentejo'.

Recommended are visits to the Santo Domingo Hermitage and Convent, Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación de Las Victorias Church, San Juan Bautista Hermitage, Pino Centenario and the Acentejo ravine.
