This is an area rich in water and fertile earth for the cultivation of wine.

Midway up the mountain, the pine forest begins and continues to the limits of Teide National Park.

Of added interest is a series of caves and volcanic tubes among which can be found the world's most extensive and beautiful, Cueva del Viento (Cave of the Wind).

Also worth a visit is the Candelaria Cave.

Among the typical island celebrations is the popular Festival of Las Tablas (boards) held on the eve of St. Andrew when the new wine is tasted.

Young people slide along the raised streets on boards that have been placed for the occasion.

A large exhibit of regional handicrafts can be enjoyed in the Municipal Crafts Centre (Centro Municipal de Artesanía).
