The arid earth of the Isora Badlands (Malpaís de Isora) has been transformed into fertile farms that on occasion extend into the middle of the coast.

The enclaves of San Juan beach and Alcalá on the coast have a few hotels, while fishing continues to play an important role in the economy of some families.

In November the festival of the Volcano (fiesta del Volcán) commemorates the eruption of Chinyero, and is the perfect opportunity to taste the local specialties.
