The capital of Granadilla de Abona rises 650 metres above sea level.

The centre houses an old Franciscan convent founded in 1665.

Destroyed by fire in 1745, it was subsequently rebuilt on request by the parish.

The Reina Sofía airport is on the coast together with El Médano, a traditional fishing village that has been converted into a windsurfer's paradise.

The beaches at El Médano and La Tejita, separated by Roja Mountain that drops to the sea, are preferred by most tourists and locals.

Further to the south is Los Abrigos, old port of San Miguel, a traditional fishing village that can be appreciated for its restaurants.

Of special interest is the geological formation called Paisaje Lunar (lunar landscape) where the volcanic rocks delight with their shapes made sinuous by wind and rain.
