In 1999, UNESCO declared the city of La Laguna a "Heritage of Humanity" for maintaining its original layout since its creation; as an example of an unfortified colonial city with a direct link to the new American foundations ; and for the conservation of the Mudejar architecture of its buildings.
One should walk through this beautiful city and breathe in the atmosphere of a past era. Houses of interest are Los Adelantados, Corregido, Lercaro, San Martín, Alvarado-Bracamonte, Bigot, Salzar, Van-Damme, Ossuna, Montañés, Mustelier, Los Jesuitas, de Mesa, Suárez and Peraza de Ayala. Of special mention are the cathedral, the old parish of Los Remedios and all the other religious buildings throughout the city.
