Together with the Teide, El Drago is an emblem of the island. The fact that a tree, scientifically called " Dracaena Draco ", is among the oldest in the world (calculated at 1,000 years) reminds us of how young we are with regard to the creation of the universe.
El Drago towers at 16 metres with a perimeter of 20 metres at the base, and weighs 140 tons.
Shrouded in mystery and legend, it was sacred to the Guanches since they believed it possessed curative powers. Such was its impact that Aristotle and Charles the Great both mentioned this millenarian and Bosch copied it for his painting, "The Garden of Delights".
The Drago sits in the park of the same name; three hectares of varied vegetation that reach the Caforiño Ravine.
