Almost every form of handicrafts that has developed in the Canaries can be found in Tenerife.

Within the textile industry, weaving occupies an important place, not only in the making of clothing and blankets but also typical costumes, given the great demand and variety on the island.

Basketry, traditional pottery, works in stone, wood and iron, together with the making of knives, cigars and musical instruments round out the range of handicrafts to be found here.
CARPENTRY AND WOODWORKING Top
The abundance of wood since early history has ensured the survival of this craft. The entire manufacturing process for classical furnishings was carried out in the workshops, from the carving and assembly through to the varnishing and upholstering.
The finish of this furniture demonstrated the meticulousness of the work , and this attention to detail can be seen even in the balconies, doors, windows and corridors.

As well, boats and other smaller items were also part of their tradition, and the precision work as seen in the small guitars (timples) and cigar humidors for example, displays a decorating technique called "taracea", the inlay of coloured wood and/or contrasting materials, which in the Canaries has achieved a particular simplicity.
TRADITIONAL COSTUME Top
The traditional costume is the prime example of the textile craft in Tenerife today.

Linen and flax were used for undergarments and cloths while silk and wool were spun and woven on looms for the rest of the garments.

From the making of woollen cloth to the final sewing, the entire process is hand crafted including the buttons, cords and accessories such as hats and socks.
